Always looking forward or relishing in the past?

eoc_growler.jpg (800×600)An honest question.  when it comes to beers would you rather try something that you have never had,  or do you find yourself going back to a past favorite.  Now, in this case, I am not talking about constantly running after the newest one-off limited collaboration.  It could be a year rounder you never had, or some new release or whatever.

I find myself going for something new each time.  Most of the time if i could always get a mix and match six-pack I probably would.  That’s not to say I did not like what I have had,  in fact I have loved quite a few of them,  but to get through a 6 pack or a 4 pack even with these leaves me antsy.

If I had the storage space, the access to filling stations or breweries, and the free cash, I would the biggest growler costumer.  Especially now that they have those fun turn a growler into a mini keg carbonation units!   Put it this way I will never win the regular badge on Untappd.

On the other hand, some people would love to stick with a base of favorites and try something new every once in a while. Someone who could live on a kegerator.

Neither is wrong, but where do you guys fall?  Somewhere in the middle?  Or to one end or the other?

It really depends on my mood that day. Most times I’ll go for something new, but occasionally I just want to drink a beer and not think about it, just know I’ll enjoy it. That’s when I’ll go to one of my standbys.

good call! I usually end up with one-off leftovers to grab when the mood hits

Most of the time, something new. Sure, there are beers that I love, but I just don’t buy them anymore because there is so much out there to try. I am a brewery loyalist though. When locals come out with something new, I make it a point to seek it out and try it.

I had this conversation with a bartender and one of my favorites in downtown Boston last night. I’ve got over 1400 unique beers I’ve tried on Untappd, and that doesn’t even scratch the surface of what’s out there. I find that I feel bad whenever I’m not trying something new, because there’s so many new brews to experience.

But some nights I don’t want anything new, and since starting the blog, some nights I want something I don’t feel obligated to write a blog post about. Some nights I stay up cashing in my bad luck. Some nights I call it a draw. Where was I?

I usually hit the dilemma where I open my beer fridge – which is separate from my leftover pizza fridge – and look at all the amazing beers in there and think… “Do I have a High Life somewhere in here?”
