The farmland comes to NJ with Boulevard’s Tank 7 Saison

Tank 7 – Where to start. Wow is a good one, but we need to have a little more depth here. Everything seems so balanced, the hint of grapefruit from the Amarillo Hops, a little lemon, some pepper, a little bready malts. To say they got this one right is an understatement. Yes there was a bit of hype behind this one, though nowhere near as high as some other things, but I think this more than lives up to it.

From the breweries description:

Most breweries have at least one piece of equipment that’s just a bit persnickity. Here at Boulevard it’s fermenter number seven, the black sheep of our cellar family. Ironically, when our brewers were developing variations on a traditional Belgian-style farmhouse ale, the perfect combination of elements came together in that very vessel. You could call it fate, but they called it Tank 7, and so it is. Beginning with a flavorful surge of fruity aromatics and hoppy, grapefruit notes (Amarillo hops), this complex, straw-colored ale finishes long, dry and spicy.

Nothing is overpowering the other or taking center stage. Pouring with this wonderful fluffy white head, with each sip or sniff, you can pick up the different flavors, but in the end, it just works perfectly and cohesively. Seriously this is up there are one of the best Saisons I have had.

I really want to do a side by side with Allagash’s newly released Saison – Similarly priced, and both fantastic in their own rights. I am not sure if there is a better as much as the one you happen to be in the mood for at that point. You cannot go wrong with either of them.

Coming in at 8.5% ABV it is a little on the high side for the style, maybe not a summer drink, but for this time of year?  Just about perfect.

Tank 7 comes in 12oz 4 packs as well as Bomber Bottles. I have only seen the 4 packs so far so you mileage may vary with the big bottle.
